The Belfry is already one of the UK’s most recognised golf and leisure destinations. What is the long-term vision behind investing £85M+ into this expansion, and how will it elevate the resort’s position within the global golf and luxury hospitality market?
This investment is about much more than expansion. It’s about ambition, longevity, and redefining what The Belfry stands for on the global stage.
Our resort has always been an icon of British golf and hospitality but, with guest expectations constantly changing, remaining agile in a competitive landscape is a must. Whether for business or leisure, people want experiences that are immersive and memorable – our investment allows us to meet this shift head-on and future-proof the resort for years to come.
Golf will always be our foundation, and a heritage we’re incredibly proud of, but to elevate our position within the luxury hospitality market, both domestically and internationally, we needed to build a comprehensive resort ecosystem around that legacy. The Masters Suite gives us the scale and credibility to compete globally for major events, the additional bedrooms allow guests to transition from flawless event to luxury accommodation with ease, and our new leisure and wellness offering, centred around The Club, reflects the growing demand for balance, wellbeing and relaxation.
This positions The Belfry as more than a destination people recognise – it becomes one they actively choose, whether travelling from London, Europe or further afield. We can now say ‘yes’ to opportunities we simply couldn’t accommodate before, while delivering a level of experience that feels effortless, elevated and deeply personal.
Crucially, this isn’t about leaving our heritage behind, it’s about protecting it by ensuring The Belfry continues to evolve. By combining world-class facilities, sustainability-led design and heartfelt hospitality, we’re creating a resort that honours its past while confidently stepping into the future.
Large-scale developments like this often create significant regional benefits. What economic impact do you anticipate the expansion will have on the West Midlands — from local jobs to tourism and supply chain opportunities?
We see this expansion as a long-term investment in the wider West Midlands, not just our resort. Developments of this scale have a ripple effect, and we’re already seeing that impact take shape.
From a job creation perspective, the expansion supports significant employment across various areas of the resort including hospitality, events, F&B, and operations. And these aren’t just jobs, they’re careers – ones that are supported through our training and development programmes which build skills, progression and leadership talent within the region.
The economic benefit of our development reaches far beyond The Belfry. Large-scale events bring thousands of delegates into the area, many of whom stay multiple nights and spend across the local economy. By increasing our capacity, we’re helping the West Midlands retain business that might otherwise go to London or overseas, while also attracting new international visitors to the region due to our expanded offering.
Our supply chain plays a vital role too. From construction partners and designers to our day-to-day suppliers, we’ve prioritised working with trusted regional and UK-based partners wherever possible. That commitment continues as the resort operates at a larger scale.
Ultimately, The Belfry acts as a gateway to the West Midlands. When guests arrive for a world-class event, a golf break or a wellness stay, they leave with a broader impression of the region – its professionalism, its warmth and its potential. If we can help position the Midlands as a place where ambition is supported and excellence is delivered, then the economic impact extends far beyond our doors.
Can you share some details about the new facilities being introduced, and how this project will transform the guest experience for both leisure visitors and corporate clients?
This project represents a step-change for The Belfry. We haven’t simply added new facilities; we’ve fundamentally reimagined how guests experience the resort, whether they’re visiting for leisure, business or both.
At the centre of the development is The Masters Suite, our flagship events space. Designed to host up to 920 delegates, it delivers the scale, flexibility and production capability clients expect from a world-class venue, and combines this with sweeping views across the Brabazon golf course and vibrant, personalised hospitality. Crucially, 149 new luxury bedrooms are just steps away, allowing delegates to move effortlessly from conference to accommodation and downtime – something that’s increasingly important for today’s event organisers.
For leisure guests, the transformation is equally impactful. The Club introduces a completely new dimension to the resort, with state-of-the-art fitness facilities, four premium studios including dedicated yoga, spin and reformer pilates studios, indoor and outdoor pools, and spaces designed for relaxation and recovery including a sauna and steam room. It reflects the growing trends towards wellness and balance, while broadening The Belfry’s appeal beyond traditional golf breaks. Families can now enjoy a designated children’s shallow pool, with sprinklers and a flume, as well as a boulder wall next to the Revive Café within The Club. As part of the development a new Woodland Adventure play area has also been created for children of all ages which includes swings, zip lines, cargo nets and slides, to name a few!
Across the wider resort, refurbished bedrooms, an expanded dining offer and reimagined social spaces ensure a consistent, elevated experience at every touchpoint. What this development ultimately delivers is choice and fluidity: guests can shape their stay around business, relaxation, celebration or connection, all within one destination.
For both leisure visitors and corporate clients, the result is a more immersive, seamless and memorable experience – one that honours The Belfry’s heritage while confidently meeting the expectations of the modern luxury traveller.
Sustainability is playing an increasing role in major development projects. How has environmental responsibility been built into the design, construction, and long-term operation of the new expansion?
Sustainability has been a fundamental consideration throughout this expansion. From the earliest design stages, the brief was clear: this development had to be responsible, efficient and future-ready, while still delivering the level of comfort and quality our guests expect.
Both The Masters Suite and The Club have been designed and constructed with the ambition of achieving a BREEAM Excellence rating, which provides a clear, internationally recognised benchmark for environmental performance. That framework has guided decisions around everything from energy efficiency and material selection to water use, accessibility and biodiversity protection.
During construction, we worked closely with trusted partners who share our sustainability values, prioritising responsible sourcing, waste reduction and efficient build methods. As a resort, we already operate a zero-waste-to-landfill policy, and that commitment was front and centre for this project.
Looking ahead, sustainability is embedded into how these facilities will operate day-to-day. Smart building management systems allow us to closely monitor and optimise energy, water and heating usage, while features such as PIR lighting, solar panels and high-performance insulation help reduce environmental impact long- term.
Importantly, this is about practical, honest sustainability. Guests shouldn’t feel they’re compromising on experience; quite the opposite. A well-designed, energy-efficient building is more comfortable, calmer and better to spend time in. For us, environmental responsibility and exceptional hospitality go hand-in-hand, and this expansion reflects that belief.
