A dyslexic mum of two is preparing to launch a creative digital platform for children who struggle with words — whether that’s reading, writing, spelling, or expressing how they feel — after securing backing from Innovate UK.

My Best Mood is the brainchild of Rose Lord from Leamington, inspired by her own childhood, where she struggled at school and would often lie awake wishing she could be “normal” and understood.

When she saw history repeating itself in her own children, and watched her daughter come home from school exhausted and repeatedly saying, “I’m not good at anything,” she realised she had to do something.

During Covid, Rose joined online support groups for parents of neurodivergent children and says she was shocked by how little had changed.

“I read thousands of stories from parents describing children who felt misunderstood, overwhelmed and unable to explain how they felt,” she says. “Decades on, too many children are still falling through the cracks simply because they can’t express themselves in the ways the system expects.”

Due to launch in 2026, My Best Mood is being developed with input from more than 160 children, parents and educators, and is grounded in positive psychology, growth mindset and emotional regulation principles. It uses child-safe creative AI prompts to help children bring their imaginations to life — through stories, drawing or journaling — without the pressure of spelling, handwriting, marking or fear of making a mistake.

Recently named a finalist for both the national Women in Tech Awards and the Woman Who Awards, Rose hopes the app will not only support children, but also parents and teachers when traditional learning methods don’t seem to be working.

“The idea is to support any child who struggles with reading, writing or expressing themselves, by giving them a tool that helps build confidence and open up a world of literacy. It’s not intended to analyse, diagnose or replace parents, teachers or professionals — but to help build self-worth through creativity.”
